Programme Leader for CPD

About

I started my career as a primary teacher in Wiltshire where I worked for four years as Literacy Coordinator and a teacher in KS2. I then joined VSO in Eritrea as an English Methodology Trainer where I worked with teachers and heads to help them develop their skills in teaching English to primary aged children. After two years I returned to the UK where I took up another Wiltshire teaching post while studying for a Master's Degree.

My area of specialism is Literacy and I later became a Literacy Consultant for Wiltshire County Council. As part of School Improvement and Support, I worked closely with heads and teachers to plan ways to take Literacy learning and teaching forward in their schools. I then joined a small 'not for profit' educational consultancy promoting 'First Steps', a primary Literacy resource developed in Western Australia. My consultancy with Steps PD involved projects in Education Action Zones, for example, Nechells in Birmingham, as well as training local authority advisers and consultants to use the resource.

I joined the CPD department in the School of Education in November 2004 and I am now the Prgramme Leader for the part-time Master's. My role involves working in partnership with Local Authorities and schools to create bespoke CPD projects at Master's level. I work with Early Years, Primary and Secondary teachers and the wider school workforce. The projects I am involved in often revolve around ideas of 'learning to learn' and creative learning approaches with teachers engaging with action research projects in their own classroom
