About
I have recently completed a PhD thesis on the Queens regnant of Navarre at Bath Spa University. My research is an examination of the political careers of these remarkable women, focusing on issues of female succession, strategies of diplomacy and marital alliances and the balance of power between the queens regnant and their kings consort. I received an MA in Medieval Studies from the University of Reading; my research there focused on the Queens of Jerusalem and the marital politics of Manuel I Commenus. I finished my BA in Humanities with Classical Studies through the Open University; my final year project was on 'Status and Sexual Unions' during the Roman imperial period.
I have been lecturing at Bath Spa University since 2008. I teach a range of undergraduate modules including first and second year core modules, modules in medieval and Early Modern history and supervise dissertation students.
I have recently been appointed as French and Spanish editor for the Female Biography Project and I am also contributing to the project as a scholar.
I am also a co-organizer of the conference 'Kings & Queens: Power, Personalities, Patronage and Politics in Medieval and Early Modern Monarchy' held at Corsham Court on April 19 & 20, 2012. At the conference we launched the Royal Studies Network, a web-based initiative designed to enable connections between scholars working on monarchal themes and topics. Please visit our website at www.royalstudiesnetwork.org to join the network or for more information.
